The problem
Askyourpdf reached out in 2023 because their AI PDF tool needed a new look and more ways for people to use it. They wanted to make it easier for anyone to chat with their PDFs, no matter what device they're using.
The initial platform looked like this

I started with thorough user research to understand how people were interacting with their platform. By analyzing competitor platforms, I identified key areas where I could improve the experience. The goal was to make PDF interactions feel as natural as having a conversation with a knowledgeable colleague.
I created a component library that maintained consistency across their web platform, Chrome extension, and mobile app. Each component was designed to adapt to different user needs - whether someone needed quick PDF actions in the browser, full features on the web, or easy mobile interactions.
This helped their development team implement the designs faster and kept everything looking unified, no matter where users were accessing the platform. The chat interface was also one of the key focus areas. Instead of overwhelming users with features, I created a clean, conversational experience. Finally for developers, I prioritized making the API integration features clear and accessible.
The impact of the redesign was significant:
The platform has grown to over 5 million users
The Chrome extension attracted 30,000+ users
The mobile app across iOS and Android had reached 150,000+ users
Generated over $1M in revenue since launch
